Digital Camera controls & Basic Functions
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ex: 1/250 shutter speed catches fast vs 1/20 catches which catches blur
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- DSLR (digital single lens reflex)- uses mirrors to direct light from the lens to the viewfinder
- Exposure: amount of light collected by sensor
- Aperture(details and colors), shutter speed(moving photography), and ISO(dark/night) expressed in ‘f-stops’ (smaller f-stop = bigger aperture and vice versa) Ex: f1.4 > f8.0
- Higher f stop increases depth of field bringing main focus to subject and background
- Lower f stops soften background details
- Shutter speed fast freezes action and slow creates motion blur
Ex: 1/250 shutter speed catches fast vs 1/20 catches which catches blur
- 1/60 is lowest for HANDHELD photography
- ISO: sensitivity to light ( higher ISO increases sensitivity while lower ISO decreases sensitivity)
- bright/ sunny: 100 iso , Cloudy, 250 iso, indoors, 500 iso, night w/out flash 1600 iso
- M- manual control over aperture and shutter
- A- Aperture priority (babies, food, flowers, etc)
- S-Shutter priority (moving images)
- P-Camera sets shutter speed and aperture
